Why Rankings Matter

Rankings help traders quickly identify three things:

  1. The most actively traded contracts -- high volume signals that other market participants are placing significant bets on a particular strike and expiration.
  2. Contracts with the highest open interest -- large outstanding positions indicate where money is already committed, which can act as support, resistance, or signal institutional positioning.
  3. Contracts with unusual volume relative to open interest -- when today's trading volume far exceeds the existing open interest, it often means new positions are being opened aggressively. This is one of the strongest signals of fresh, potentially informed activity.

Together, these metrics help you move from "what could I trade?" to "what is the market telling me is worth watching right now?"
